Like me, you may read mysteries because you enjoy seeing the bad guys caught and justice served within a few hundred pages. Mysteries can take many forms, but in all mysteries, the protagonist/sleuth makes the world a better place. The sleuths may not always be big city detectives. They may be teachers, bookstore owners, or society mavens, but they use their unique skills or professions to catch the murderer. 

Historical mysteries add another bonus to the mix. They are an interesting way to learn about the past. Experiencing history through a novel is a great way to understand the culture and times of the 1860s. And that’s what I tried to bring to my book, a bit of history told in an interesting setting that allows you to experience the past and solve a complicated murder in the process.
